Square Enix Japan

Posted December 2, 2010

When I was a little girl I wanted to work for Square Enix. I wanted to be a Japanese translator and make sure all the games were in english. I wanted to go into the Japanese office everyday and play all of the games. I was seven.

One little dream came true today and that was to visit Square Enix Japan. While I didn’t get to check out the actual studio rooms themselves (too many art assets for secret stuff apparently) I did get to sit and play a bunch of games, marvel at the lobby and even use the woman’s toilets. I bet your jealous of that last one especially.

It was amazing. The lobby is absolutely full of games, figurines, artwork and general awesome. I just wanted to roll about on the floor and twitch, attempt  not to wet myself and cry for more Aya Brea. Instead I took a few minutes to have a mini victory dance in the toilets.

Today I had some hands on time with The 3rd Birthday, Tactics Ogre and Dissidia 012 [duodecim] Final Fantasy Super HD Remix. I also did my first two interviews with a translator which was quite fun. I could pick up a few words here and there and the translator was there to fill in the gaps. It was really awesome and I felt like I’ve hit another milestone in my career. I’ll get into the games and interviews another time.

We also checked out the Square Enix store. All I could think of was ‘Holy shit balls! I might explode’. It was immense. There was so much stuff I wanted to buy. The Sephiroth statue and the Christmas decorations were making me melt into a blob of fan-girly goo.

Anyway, enjoy the photos and I’ll be blogging more soon on my Japan trip.
