Harassment, Misogyny and Tropes vs. Women

Posted June 12, 2012

Not to throw this whole women in games thing down your throat but I wanted to bring to your attention a project that’s under way on Kickstarter that you might wish to back. It’s called Tropes vs. Women in Video Games and will be created by Feminist Frequency’s Anita Sarkeesian.

Earlier this year, I was invited to speak about developing female characters in video games at the BUNGIE offices in Bellevue, WA (you probably know BUNGIE as the developers of the Halo series). It was a great experience engaging with creators and developers in the gaming industry so I decided it’s time to dedicate an entire series to female characters in video games.

Because last year’s Tropes vs Women series was so successful, I’m bringing it back with Tropes vs Women in Video Games… And this is where you come in! I’m gonna need your help to make this new series come to life. Check out my Kickstarter Project – Tropes vs Women in Video Games and please donate any amount you can! – Anita Sarkeesian

What’s most interesting about this story is the reaction. The weird side of the internet has gone mental and are doing everything they can to shut the project down. The good thing is that all the hate on the project has actually helped the right people find it and back it and the project is now fully funded.

If you’re interested in the project then why not spare a pound or two and donate.
